Aluminium fixed IBR covers: what they are and when to choose them

IBR is a roof-sheet profile, and a fixed IBR cover is a solid roof built from it in aluminium. The sheets run in wide, ribbed panels that shed water and carry across a span, giving you full shade and shelter with no blades to adjust and nothing to retract. It is the most straightforward way to put a permanent roof over an outdoor area.

What IBR actually means

IBR stands for a common roof-sheet profile with a bold, square rib. In our aluminium fixed IBR covers, that profile is made in aluminium rather than steel, so it does not rust and does not need repainting. The sheets fix to an aluminium frame to form a fixed roof that is set at a slight fall to drain rainwater cleanly.

Solid roof, full cover

The main appeal is total, permanent cover. Whatever the weather, the space underneath stays shaded and dry. There are no moving parts, no motor and nothing to service, so once it is up it simply does its job. For a patio you use daily, or a walkway between buildings, that reliability is exactly what you want.

Where it works best

Fixed IBR suits areas that need shelter all the time rather than shade you tune through the day. Patios, back doors, walkways and storage areas are typical. If you would rather open the roof to the sun on a cool day, an adjustable louvre awning is the better fit. If you only need shade now and then, a retractable folding arm awning may suit. Many homes use a mix, with a fixed cover over the walkway and an adjustable one over the entertainment area.

A neat, finished underside

The underside of an IBR cover can be left as the ribbed sheet or finished with an aluminium patio ceiling for a smooth, insulated look that hides the structure and holds lighting. Adding drop blinds to an open side closes off low sun and wind when you need it.
